Why Water Wise?

  1.  Utah has the country’s highest per-person municipal water use and officials are proposing to spend billions of dollars to import new water (Utah Rivers Council).
  2. 100% of Utah's population is living under drought conditions (National Integrated Drought Information System).
  3. 75% of Utah's municipal water use is for outdoor irrigation, mostly lawns (Utah Rivers Council).
  4. Water wise garden and lawn practices are a great way to reduce water use (Central Utah Water Conservancy District).

What Plants Should I Use?

The video to the right features Water Wise plants in UVU Herbarium Curator Erin Riggs' "Utah Cottage Garden" and Water Wise landscaping featured by the Central Utah Water Conservancy District.

The video also covers other Water Wise Gardening tips such as:

  • Reducing lawn area and increasing Water Wise planting area
  • Using mulch to improve moisture retention
  • Using drip irrigation to more efficiently deliver water to plants
