Low Waste Halloween Tips
Spooky season is here! With Halloween just around the corner here are some tips to help you avoid frightful holiday waste:
- Hand out low-waste treats like candy in recyclable cardboard or compostable packaging, fruit, prizes (pencils, erasers, etc.), or homemade treats.
- Make your decorations low-waste by using real items (pumpkins, gourds, leaves, hay bales, etc.), DIYing (milk jug lanterns, tin can ghosts, egg carton bats, etc.), or thrifting your decorations.
- Get creative and dig through your closet (and maybe your friends' too) to find the perfect costume. Thrifting is also a great option to find costume components or secondhand costumes.
- If you're hosting a party try to stick to reusables (plates, cups, & utensils) or chose drinks in single use packaging that is infinitely recyclable like aluminum and glass. Once the holiday is over dispose of your unwanted items responsibly. Compost your pumpkins and other natural decor items, recycle your DIY decorations as appropriate, or donate decorations and costumes.
