This year, we aim to produce 5,000 pounds of produce in the garden. If we reach that goal, the USDA will recognize us as a small farm. We need all the help we can get to reach our goal, so we will have two volunteer days a week throughout the summer and fall."

The UVU GRIT Garden has successfully launched its second year of growing fresh produce for the campus community. Boston Swan, the UVU Greenhouse Director and Manager of the GRIT and Native Gardens, has extended an invitation to all to help the Garden achieve its goal: "This year, we aim to produce 5,000 pounds of produce in the garden. If we reach that goal, the USDA will recognize us as a small farm. We need all the help we can get to reach our goal, so we will have two volunteer days a week throughout the summer and fall. Wednesdays from 4 pm to 6 pm and Fridays from 9 am to 11 am. We recommend bringing a water bottle and sunscreen and to come ready to get dirty. Everyone is welcome!"  (Learn more about the UVU GRIT Garden at this link)

The GRIT Garden partners with the UVU CARE Hub's Fresh Food Fridays, which provides (free) fresh produce to the campus community. Upcoming events will be held July 7, 21, and Aug 4, 1:00-3:00 p.m. (while supplies last), at the Fulton Library Concourse (out front). Visit the CARE Hub's Instagram page (link here) to keep up to date on Fresh Food Friday events and to  find great recipe ideas.

Outdoor Adventure Center

It's Called the "Great" Outdoors for a Reason

Utah is celebrated for its outdoor recreation opportunities, including right here in our backyard - the Wasatch Front and Back. This year's snowy winter and long spring have made for beautiful, green mountains that beckon us to come for a visit.

UVU's Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is a great resource for the campus community and beyond. For this time of year, it provides equipment rentals for water activities, hiking, biking, climbing, and camping. A UVU ID will get you a discount, but you don't have to be affiliated with UVU to rent equipment from the OAC.

In addition to rentals, the OAC organizes programs and outings so you can try new activities, see new places, and meet new people. Upcoming programs include the "7 Summits of the Wasatch Series," stand-up paddleboarding, and a full-moon hike.

Upcoming Outdoor Adventure Center programs/outings include:

  • July 13 - 7 Summits Series: Provo Peak
  • July 20 - 7 Summits Series: Cascade Peak
  • July 26 - Tibble Fork SUP Day (SUP=Stand-Up Paddleboard)
  • July 28 - 7 Summits Series: Lone Peak
  • August 1 - Full Moon Hike
  • August 7 - 7 Summits Series: Mt. Timpanogos
  • August 12 - 7 Summits Series: Mt. Nebo
