SCULPT Funding

Mini-Grant Funding

SCULPT funds requests for materials needed to implement research and inquiry-based learning in the classroom.

The application should include the following information:

  • Project Summary: Provide a description of the project that the funding is requested for. The summary should clearly show how the proposed project aligns with SCULPT guidelines, priorities, and the UVU mission.
  • Project Statement of Need: Provide a clear statement of how the funding will be used and the need for funding. Explain the benefits of desired outcomes and long-term effects (if any)
  • Impact on Students and Mentors: A statement of how the funding will help UVU students and their mentors achieve their goals.
  • Budget: Provide an accurate budget of expenses that meets the minimum requirements. The expenses should be at most $1,000.

Mini-grant funds are intended to facilitate student research and other creative work and/or implement inquiry-based pedagogy in or out of classroom. Students who wish to request funds should do so through a faculty mentor. Mini-grants can only be used to purchase items through UVU Marketplace.

Evaluation Rubric

  • Project Summary (out of 5 pts for each item)
    • The project for which the funding is requested is clearly described
    • The summary clearly shows how the projects align with SCULPT mission (project is connected to UR and/or inquiry-based pedagogy in- and or out-of-classroom)
    • The summary clearly shows how the projects align with the UVU mission
  • Project Statement of Need (out of 5 pts for each item)
    • Clear statement of how the funding will be used and the need for funding
    • Benefits of desired outcomes of this funding are clearly stated
    • Long-term effects (if any) of the funding are clearly stated
  • Impact on Students, and Mentors (out of 5 points for each item)
    • Impact and benefits to Students
    • Impact and benefits to Mentors

Travel Mini-Grant

SCULPT provides travel funding to support attending a conference and presenting on topics that are connected to undergraduate research and inquiry-based pedagogy (teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and creative work in and out of classroom).

The application should include the following information:

  • Project Summary: Provide a description of the conference that the funding is requested for. The summary should clearly show how attending and presenting at this conference aligns with SCULPT guidelines, priorities, and the UVU mission.
  • Attached acceptance of talk/workshop/creative work
  • Project Statement of Need: Provide a clear statement of need for the funding, addressing benefits of desired outcomes and long-term effects of attending and presenting at the conference
  • Impact on Students, Community, and Discipline: Provide a statement of how attending the conference will impact students, community, and/or discipline and what are the benefits from it. Describe the level of academic/intellectual inquiry.
  • Budget: Provide an accurate budget of expenses that meets the minimum requirements. The expenses should be no more than $500.

Multiple $500 travel grants may be awarded per semester to award candidates for travel, registration, and lodging expenses.

Development / Travel Grant to CUR Institute

This grant allows a faculty member to attend one of the CUR conferences and then return to train the rest of the SCULPT membership using what they learned.

The application should include the following information:

  • Project Summary: Provide a description of the CUR conference that the funding is requested for. The summary should clearly show how attending this conference aligns with SCULPT guidelines, priorities, and the UVU mission. Address why applicant is interested in this travel.
  • Project Statement of Need: Provide a clear statement of need for the funding, addressing the benefits of desired outcomes and long-term effects (if any) of attending the conference.
  • Impact on Students, Community, and Discipline: Provide a statement of how attending the conference will impact and benefit the candidate and/or their students.
  • Dissemination: Explain how the obtained information will be disseminated to SCULPT Co-Chairs, Advisory Board members, and other SCULPT members.
  • Budget: Provide an accurate budget of expenses (registration, airfare, lodging) that meet the minimum requirements. The expenses should be at most $2,500.

SCULPT Grant Review Committee

An independent group of board members will review all prospective applications and award the grants to the applicants. After the committee members' review and evaluation, the awardee will be selected by a majority vote.
