Student Information Release Authorization (SIRA)

WHAT IS SIRA?

The Student Information Release Authorization (SIRA) tool allows you to manage what information about your education records is shared and with whom. Within SIRA, you can set your own Security Phrase and set individuals as delegates.

  1. Your Security Phrase (REQUIRED!)
A word or phrase that you choose to help us identity you over the phone and in other situations.
Your security phrase can be anything you want, but remember:
    • Do NOT use your myUVU password.
    • This phrase is delivered VERBALLY. Choose something that is easy to say and remember, and is not embarrassing.
    • Many UVU employees will be able to see your security phrase.
    • Your phrase must be alpha-numeric characters only. No special characters or punctuation is allowed.
    SET/UPDATE YOUR SECURITY PHRASE
  2. Your Delegates (Optional - highly recommended!)
You can assign delegate access to your information. Delegates can speak with UVU employees and request changes to your information on your behalf - kind of like an agent or representative. Though optional, we highly recommend you add a trusted delegate who can help you with your interactions and information at UVU.
    Delegates:
    • Can be anyone you want
    • Have their own security phrase, set by you.
    • Have access according to what you define.
    • Can be added, removed, or updated any time.
    SET/UPDATE YOUR DELEGATES
  3. Your Directory Information (Optional - not recommended)
Under FERPA, you have the right to directory information non-disclosure or confidentiality. This prevents UVU employees from releasing your directory (non-private) information which would otherwise be releasable without your consent. To see what is included in directory information, visit https://www.uvu.edu/registration/ferpa/.

⚠️ WARNING: Unless your safety is at risk, we don't generally recommend making your directory information confidential.
Consequences of preventing release of directory information:
    • University personnel cannot discuss anything with you over the phone or even confirm your enrollment at UVU unless you first volunteer your UVID and security phrase. If you do not or can not volunteer this information over the phone, you must appear in person or contact us via email with your UVU student email address.
    • Information regarding your student status will be suppressed, so that if prospective employer, family member, or anyone else inquires about you, they will be informed that we have no record of your attendance or existence at UVU.
    • Your name will not appear on Dean's lists.
    • Your name will not appear in UVU graduation/commencement programs, books, or publications.
