The Minor in Risk Management will help prepare students for possible Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) credentials. It focuses in depth on foundations of risk management and insurance, enterprise risk management, business law for insurance, commercial property risk management and insurance, and commercial liability risk management and insurance. In addition, students will achieve further distinction by complementing their demonstrated expertise in insurance issues with a mastery of general management principles finance, operations, and leadership
This new program offers a unique career opportunity for Woodbury business students in the new field of Enterprise Risk Management. This rapidly changing profession is varied, complex, and dynamic. As it becomes a vital part of government, business, and nonprofit entities, the industry has made bringing in college-educated professionals a top priority.
Students who complete a class with a B-or better may apply for a waiver from the institutions sponsoring the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriting Designation (CPCU). The CPCU is nine courses, and students are allowed a maximum of two waivers.

Interpret how risk management techniques can be used to address an organization’s

Upon successful completion of this minor, students should be able to enter a career in risk management and insurance. Students will have an understanding of risk management techniques needed to address an organization’s property loss exposure and commercial liability. Completing students will also be able to define relevant risk management techniques for commercial property loss and exposure. Students will be able to apply United States law to business of insurance and risk management.
