Application deadline to apply: August 1, 2024, at 11:59 PM

What is the Presidential 100?

The Presidential 100 is a group of students selected each academic year to participate in a cohort-based mentoring program that focuses on personal development, an understanding of critical factors shaping national and global politics and economics, and service, all supervised by UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez.

Students who complete the required meetings and activities over two semesters will be awarded a certificate, much like completing an executive education program. Successful participants will gain leadership skills, a network of mentors and friends, and new concepts and frameworks for understanding and navigating a world that is volatile yet full of opportunity.

Who is eligible?

Any UVU student taking at least 6 credit per semester (new, current, transfer, returning) AND who has fewer than 60 college credits as of August 1, 2024, is eligible to apply. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. You do not need to have a UVU GPA to apply. Only the first 300 applications will be evaluated for acceptance.

Students should be serious about participating in and benefitting from interaction with President Tuminez, members of the executive and academic leadership team at UVU, and dignitaries or leading thinkers from around the world.

What is the time commitment?

Students are expected to participate during both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, spending 5-6 hours per month on activities and meetings.

  • Mandatory monthly group meetings will be held on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 PM.
    • Fall meetings are scheduled for:
      • August 21
      • September 18
      • October 16
      • November 20
    • Spring meetings are scheduled for:
      • February 19
      • March 19
      • April 16 (3:00 PM start)
  • The Presidential 100 will also have additional optional opportunities to attend sporting, arts, and academic events with the group at no cost.
  • Smaller cohort meetings such as hosted lunches or other social gatherings or service opportunities will occur once or twice monthly.

Students must attend all monthly group meetings and at least two cohort activities of their choice each semester.

What work will the Presidential 100 involve?

In addition to attending monthly meetings and selecting some cohort activities, participants will keep a journal to reflect on their learning and experiences. In the spring semester, a short book will be assigned for everyone to read. Participants will also be asked to share their learning with one other UVU student of their choice. At the end of the year, every participant will submit 1-2 pages of written reflections.

  • Have someone with experience proofread your response before you film your video
  • Make the video in a quiet location where we can also see your face
  • Make sure you check for sound quality
  • Feel free to read your response during the filming—memorization not required!

DON'T:

  • Let anyone erase your unique voice

  • Preach, lecture, or proselytize
  • Plagiarize or use generative AI like ChatGPT to prepare your responses
