The musical follows the storyline of the charismatic but rebellious Jack Kelly, who rallies the Newsies in a fight against the greedy newspaper publishers. Born Into This

May 14-Sept. 21

Born Into This

Museum of Art at Lakemount

Born and raised in Utah County, brothers James and John Rees were nurtured in the same creative environment. Less than two years apart, much of their childhood was intertwined. They attended the same educational institutions, shared many formative experiences, and had similar interactions with their natural surroundings. Despite their deep connection and similar upbringing, the brothers ultimately traveled different creative paths, developing their own unique voices and artistic sensibilities.

Born Into This: The Art of James and John Rees examines the interplay between personal identity, environment, and artistic expression, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the complexities of the creative process. By juxtaposing the brothers’ contrasting styles, we are drawn to examine their individual techniques, use of media, and thematic choices. This comparative analysis utilizes psychological and sociological perspectives to understand how one’s own perception of shared experiences can influence artistic inspiration and creative responses.

Through the Eyes of A Child: Paintings and Sculptures by Dennnis Smith

June 14-Sept. 21

Through the Eyes of A Child

Museum of Art at Lakemount

To Dennis Smith, the child is a metaphor for life. Children’s lives, as they explore the world around them, parallel our lives as adults as we discover our identity in this universe. While his figurative bronze sculptures capture the human spirit and innocence of childhood, his loosely depicted suburban landscapes reflect his Utah surroundings through a youthful perspective.

Wind Symphony Fall Concert

7:00 p.m.

Music

School of the Arts

A wind symphony provides all voices from a traditional orchestra using only wind and percussion instruments. That is, there are no string sections: violins, violas, and cellos. This is done by adding many more brass and woodwind players and percussionists playing both pitched and rhythm instruments. The sound of a wind symphony is unique. Some feel it has the characteristic sound of a large and powerful pipe organ. Yet the music is an artistically combined sound. Individual musicians intone their own separate "pipes" and percussionists create sounds striking a wide variety of instruments. This carefully blended interpretation breathes life into the composer's work, which in turn communicates in a way that only fine music can. Enjoy UVU’s Wind Symphony for a unique classical music experience.
