For the fourth year in a row, Utah Valley University is the largest public university
in Utah, with a headcount of 39,931 students enrolled for the 2018 fall semester,
according to data released today by the Utah System of Higher Education.
The data shows the student population has grown 7.1 percent since last fall. Full-time
equivalent enrollment has increased 6.1 percent, with a current population of 26,573.
UVU’s unique dual-mission model provides the access and affordability of a community
college within a first-rate teaching university, all of which allows for increased
enrollment and opportunities for educational prosperity.
“We believe everyone deserves access to a college education, and our growth is reflective
of that,” said President Astrid S. Tuminez. “High school students are taking UVU classes
concurrently. Top scholars are selecting UVU as their first-choice school. Transfer
students are deciding to come here over so many other options. We’re seeing students
with a myriad of backgrounds and interests who want to be at UVU for their entire
college experience.”
To accommodate UVU’s growth, university leaders are fundraising for a new business
building, recently broke ground on a pedestrian bridge that will connect the Orem
main campus on both sides of I-15, and look forward to the completion of the Noorda
Center for the Performing Arts, a 130,000-square-foot building that will house the
university’s performing arts program.
“UVU is committed to strengthening our service region, which includes Utah, Wasatch,
and Summit counties,” said Tuminez. “We’re grateful for the state legislature, donors,
and community and state officials for their support in helping make this happen. The
story of UVU’s growth is the story of Utah’s own trajectory as a state in numbers,
opportunity, and innovation. It is so exciting to be a part of this.”
