UVU’s Hip-Hop Company presents annual showcase

hiphopUtah Valley University’s School of the Arts, in conjunction with the Department of Dance and the Mos.A.I.C Hip-Hop Company, is proud to present It Was All a Dream, a Hip-Hop Showcase. The performances will be held in the Ragan Theater on March 28-30 at 7:30 p.m.

Mos.A.I.C has its origins in a hip-hop class taught by Ashley Kimsey. While teaching the class, Ashley realized the need for a hip-hop company at Utah Valley University. With the help of administration officials, Mos.A.I.C was born and is now celebrating its sixth season.

When asked what sets Mos.A.I.C performances apart from other shows of a similar nature, Ashley said, “Most of the choreography is done by the students. They’re incredibly talented and always take risks in creating their numbers.” She continued, “Each number is also very different; there are no two similar pieces.”

The hip-hop showcase features student choreography as well as special guest numbers and local crews from Salt Lake City. The show has a variety of different styles adding to the energetic nature of the performance. Audience members can expect to be highly involved. “We encourage the audience to yell, scream, and clap. The more energy we get from the audience the more ‘full out’ we go,” said Kinsey. Mos.A.I.C has a history of creating outstanding, high-energy performances that typically sell out shows.

The performances will be held in the Ragan Theater on March 28-30 at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. Mos.A.I.C is a family friendly show, but babies may need earplugs if it gets too loud. Tickets for the event are $8 for students and children, $12 for the general public, and $6 per ticket for groups of ten or more.
