UVU to host Math, Cryptography, and Cyber Security Conference

Utah Valley University welcomes high schoolers and educators from around the region to this year’s Math, Cryptography, and Cyber Security Conference for a one day event on March 26 in UVU’s Sorensen Center, room 206 a, b, and c.

The event is free and open to all interested high school students and teachers who register online at https://ceweb.uvu.edu/CourseStatus.awp?&Course=18WEUV023A. Meals will be provided.

Four workshops, including one just for teachers, will cover the topics of Using Math to Make and Break Secret Codes, Cryptography Hands-on Workshop, Hands-on Cybersecurity Exercises for High School Teachers, and more.

“The purpose for these math-science conferences is to inspire high school students and teachers with an appreciation for the beauty and usefulness of mathematics as an essential part of our modern life,” said Violeta Vasilevska, associate professor of mathematics at UVU. “Having high school students on UVU campus and giving them the opportunity to interact with our UVU math and science majors, is a great way for them to learn about college life and opportunities after high school.”

This will be the fourth annual math-science conference and the second year it has focused specifically on math, cryptography, and cyber security. This conference is funded by the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation.
