Future firefighters teach children what to do in an emergency

Cadets from the Recruit Candidate Academy (RCA) at Utah Valley University will teach life-saving skills to students at Orem Elementary School, Tuesday, February 19, 2019. The school is located at 450 West 400 South, Orem. The demonstration will be held in the gym from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

More than 300 children in grades K-3 will learn principles including stop, drop and roll; match safety; exit drills; calling 911; and how to perform a home fire inspection with the help of a parent or adult.

Since 2014, UVU’s RCA cadets have interacted with more than 4,500 local students. This program was implemented to help students have interactions with firefighters, so if they are ever in a situation where they need the help of a firefighter, they won’t be afraid, and they won’t hide.
