Utah Valley University Hosts Utah Women’s Economic Forum

Utah Valley University’s Personal Finance Planning department is partnering with Diversify, a wealth management company, to host Utah Women’s Economic Forum this Friday, Aug 17, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the Clark Building on campus.

The Bachelor of Science in PFP implements a curriculum registered through the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Board of Standards. This provides students with the necessary knowledge to complete a CFP® certification as well as many other industry credentials. The program is one of only a limited number of dedicated, AACSB accredited bachelor programs in Personal Financial Planning.

UVU’s PFP program is a top 10 nationally-ranked program and has close to a 90 percent job placement.

Seth Anderson, the administrator for the PFP program said, “The mission of UVU’s PFP program is to equip students with the ability to make sound financial decisions and this event is one way our students can participate in educating others”

The Women in Finance class will be taught by PFP students Madisen Karlson and Jessica Wong assisted by Ryan Law, CFP ®, AFCPE, and Director the UVU Money Management Resource Center.

Diversify is the business partner for the event and employee Jenie Connors is a graduate of UVU. She received her Bachelor of Science in Economics and Personal Financial Planning, Magna Cum Laude in 2013. Connors said, “As a non-traditional student I recognized that a lot of women make financial decisions out of fear. I want to educate women on finances so they can make smart decisions that are based on goals.”

Susan Madsen, Professor of Leadership and Ethics in the Woodbury School of Business at UVU said, “Research continues to show that men say they are more knowledgeable and confident about financial issues than women. However, it is critical that women understand finances for the good of themselves and their families. This includes both day-to-day money management and also investing. This event Friday evening is an important resource for women to gain knowledge and confidence around these topics.”

The Utah Women’s Economic Forum will begin at 6 p.m. in the Clark Building in room 101. This is an open event and all are welcome to attend.
