True Wolverine has been one of the longest-standing student traditions at UVU and our Utah Valley University Student Association feels that it is necessary to redefine what it means to be a “True Wolverine”. Historically, the social event has involved kissing someone and with that kiss, becoming a True Wolverine. Over the past few years, considerable measures have been taken by UVUSA to improve the safety and security of our students at the event, while also promoting consent education. However, as we enter into an era striving to promote a safer and more inclusive campus environment for our student body, we recognize that our current True Wolverine tradition does not achieve these goals. The Fall Semester Week of Welcome has become a tradition in its own right and this year, the UVUSA Activities Branch is growing that tradition by expanding the festivities to two weeks of events hosted by UVUSA and other campus partners. By doing so, we will be able to offer a larger variety of activities along with an increased range of times for our students to attend. As per usual, there will be familiar favorites such as the Green Out Dance, our annual Summer Movie Series, and our highly anticipated Wolverine Bingo. Creating a tradition that replaces True Wolverine takes time and our student council is working tirelessly to formulate something that is both sustainable throughout the next generation and meaningful to our student body. With that being said, any suggestions are more than welcome from our UVU community.
