UVU brings to stage the classic musical Cabaret

cabaretUtah Valley University’s School of the Arts, in conjunction with the Department of Theatrical Arts, is proud to present Cabaret. The performances will be held in the Noorda Theatre on April 13-14, 16,19-21, 23, and 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on April 28, at 2:00 p.m.

Cabaret welcomes you to the infamous Kit Kat Klub, where the emcee, Sally Bowles and a raucous ensemble take the stage nightly to tantalize the crowd – and to leave their troubles outside. But as life in pre-WWII Germany grows more and more uncertain, will the decadent allure of Berlin nightlife be enough to get them through their dangerous times? Come hear some of the most memorable songs in theater history, including “Willkommen,” “Money Makes the World Go Around,” and the title song, “Cabaret.”

Director and artist in residence, Robert Moffat, said “Cabaret holds an iconic place in the annuls of music theater history. In Utah Valley, the show has a reputation that precedes it. I have been asked, ‘How can you do that show here? It’s pretty racy!’ The show does take place in an underground club in Berlin just after the worldwide depression sets in, late in 1929. There are adult themes, there is drinking, there are suggestive costumes, but they’re 1929 suggestive rather than the more in your face extremes of recent Broadway revivals.”

The performances for Cabaret will be held in the Noorda Theatre on April 13-14, 16, 19-21, 23, and 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on April 28 at 2:00 p.m. Viewer discression is advised for parents with children as there are adult themes throughout the performance. Tickets for the event are $16 for the general public, $12 for students and seniors, and special pricing is available for groups of ten or more.
