evolveUtah Valley University’s School of the Arts, in conjunction with the Department of Dance, is proud to present EVOLVE: Reshape & EVOLVE: Refine. The performances will be held in the Ragan Theater April 12-14. The senior capstone concert is a culmination of the students' studies in the Department of Dance. They have engaged in a rich and rigorous academic program that allows them to go deep into their chosen dance genre while learning and engaging in other genres and areas of study in dance. The capstone concert reflects this philosophy and study. Senior capstone concert, EVOLVE, highlights the graduates in the dance department. Each senior is responsible for creating a final choreographic work that reflects the skills and abilities gained through major programs of study at UVU. The capstone group will also manage all aspects of producing this show. This concert has two different shows with nine works performed in Reshape and another nine in Refine.

Kathie Debenham, professor of dance, stated, “Each graduate’s piece features talented dancers from the UVU dance department. The performers who come from various backgrounds and training showcase their talents and abilities in the varying styles of movement.” There are more than 75 dancers between the two shows. Guest choreographer Jessica Salter has choreographed a new work for a group of the choreographers/seniors who have chosen to also perform in this their final concert at UVU.

The production, EVOLVE, is an opportunity to experience myriad styles of dance and to see the work of the dance department's newest emerging choreographers. EVOLVE(Reshape/Refine) creates an atmosphere for all families and friends to enjoy. The students explore choreography and performance, often crossing genres through a lens of collaboration and inquiry. The public can expect a variety of dance forms in this captivating concert: modern dance, ballet, and ballroom dance.

The performances will be held in the Ragan Theater on April 12-14. Tickets for the event are $12 for the general public, $8 for students, children, and seniors. Groups of 10 or more can get tickets at a discounted rate of $6 a person.
