Utah Valley University’s Board of Trustees and President Matthew S. Holland have announced the 2018 recipients of the annual Trustee Awards of Excellence and the Presidential Awards of Excellence.
Those recognized for the Awards of Excellence were honored with a banquet on April 24, which was attended by peers, the board of trustees, and President Holland.
“The Awards of Excellence are the highest honors UVU gives to employees who show excellence in supporting our mission,” Holland said. “UVU has been enriched dearly again and again by extraordinary levels of performance and care for the cause of others. Specifically, I am delighted that tonight the eleven women and men who have been selected as Awards of Excellence winners will be honored for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to the students of Utah Valley University.”
The President’s Awards of Excellence for 2018 are:
- Candice L. Gardner, executive assistant to the president, Efficiency and Effectiveness
- Steven C. Huff, associate professor, marketing, Engagement
- Bob Palais, associate professor, mathematics, Scholarship
- Alexis Palmer, associate vice president, student affairs, Student Success
- Scott Christopher Paul, director, corporate and foundation relations, development and alumni relations, Innovation
- Heather Wilson-Ashworth, professor, biology, Engagement
“It is our privilege as members of the board of trustees of Utah Valley University to recognize those who have distinguished themselves as outstanding scholars, mentors, and friends of the University by receiving Trustee and Presidential awards,” said Elaine S. Dalton, chair of UVU’s Board of Trustees. “These are individuals whose passion for and commitment to UVU have been outstanding and inspiring.”
The Board of Trustees honors five employees for their contribution to UVU’s mission. The Trustee Awards of Excellence recipients for 2018 are:
- Mark E. Bracken, associate professor, biology
- Lowell M. Glenn, associate professor, finance and economics
- Joel Herd, director, Sorensen Student Center/Student Life and Wellness Center operations
- Vicki I. Marriott, specialist, grounds
- Elizabeth Anne Sowards, accountant, UVU Foundation
A final award given to Holland, in addition to the customary trustee “farewell” clock, was an Award of Excellence in Leadership from the Board of Trustees.
