UVU Latino Initiative to receive IME-BECAS Scholarship Grant

Utah Valley University’s Latino Initiative was selected for the ninth year in a row to receive the IME-BECAS Scholarship Grant from the Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) through the Consulate in Salt Lake City.

The grant totals $7,000 and will provide scholarships to seven to fourteen students of Mexican decent for the 2018-19 academic year to help them complete their college degrees.

UVU is the only institution of higher education in the state of Utah to receive this funding for nine consecutive years. The total amount awarded to UVU over the course of these years is $92,000.

“We’re always honored to receive these funds and to help students reach academic success,” said Yudi Lewis, UVU Latino Initiative program director. “We’ve seen great success in years past with this scholarship; most students who have received the IME-BECAS scholarship have either graduated or are close to graduating.”

UVU has the highest Latino enrollment for a four-year institution in the state.
