The Utah Board of Higher Education (UBHE) officially approved UVU’s Center for Intercultural Engagement (CIE) this week. This approval was a required step as part of HB 261, which became law on July 1, 2024. The CIE will provide robust cultural education, celebration, appreciation, and engagement opportunities. We are committed to serving the needs of all students and feel that our new structure does so in a way that is helpful to students and complies with the law.

For context, additional changes that have already been put in place in compliance with HB 261, include:

  • Student services including specialty advising, success coaching, and scholarship facilitation, previously housed in LGBTQ+ Student Services, Multicultural Student Services, and the Women's Success Center, were moved to the Student Success Center. Students will find specialty advising, success coaching, and general support in the Student Success Center.
  • UVU has also established a stand-alone department called Native Excellence and Tribal Engagement, which is focused on engaging tribal nations and their citizens.

For more information about all the changes that UVU implemented earlier this year, refer to this article published in June: https://www.uvu.edu/news/2024/06/2024_06_06_hb_261_update.html

Thanks to all the dedicated faculty, staff, and students who participated in conversations regarding these changes. We look forward to continuing to support students on their paths to success.
