Sharon McMahon, known as ‘America’s government teacher,’ will speak at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7 pm.
McMahon’s appearance is part of a multi-city tour for her book, “The Small and the Mighty.” In it, she highlights the remarkable contributions of everyday Americans — like telephone operators and schoolteachers — who are often overlooked in history. Through meticulous research, she uncovers their compelling stories, giving these unsung heroes the recognition they deserve.
Drawing on her experience as a government teacher, she emphasizes the importance of civic engagement in her book, illustrating how small actions can lead to significant change. She explores themes of resilience, empowerment, and the impact of individuals on society.
Originally, this event was set to be held at The Noorda Center for the Performing Arts on UVU’s Orem Campus. However, tickets sold out quickly within a few days. To accommodate high ticket demand, her speech has now been relocated to the UCCU Center, also on UVU’s Orem Campus.
Tickets purchased through The Noorda Center will be honored with equivalent tickets at the UCCU Center on the night of the event. Additional tickets can be purchased at uccucenter.com/events/sharonmcmahon.html. For further information, please contact the UCCU ticket office at 801-863-8545.
