One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement of the UVU Health and Wellness Village, an initiative that will profoundly impact both students and the community. This innovative project, part of UVU's master plan for the Vineyard Campus, will serve as a training ground for future healthcare professionals and provide essential health services to Utah County's growing population.
UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez emphasized the importance of this venture, stating, "With the explosive growth coming to Utah County over the next three decades, the need for healthcare professionals is significant. This Health and Wellness Village will play an important role in meeting the state's workforce needs of tomorrow."
Additionally, UVU announced a strategic partnership with the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), a move that will provide UVU students with valuable hands-on opportunities in the field of cancer care. HCI pledged $1 million to fund this partnership, with initial student engagement occurring at its Salt Lake City facility. Vineyard Mayor Julie Fullmer expressed her excitement for UVU's Health and Wellness Village and praised the HCI-UVU Collaborative, recognizing its potential to meet the health needs of Utah County for generations to come.
The community's support for UVU was also evident in the university's fundraising efforts. UVU's endowment reached an impressive $100 million, a major milestone that will provide funding stability and support for educational programs. UVU is in the midst of its EverGREEN campaign, aiming to raise $350 million to transform the lives of UVU students.
Kyle Reyes, vice president of Institutional Advancement and CEO of the UVU Foundation, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, "This is a significant accomplishment for UVU, which has only been a university for 15 years. It's also a testament to the generosity of so many in Utah and beyond who are investing in future generations."
Since its inception, the President's Scholarship Ball has provided scholarships to thousands of students, with nearly $3 million in funding. This year's event raised over $667,000, with donations still pouring in. The emphasis on supporting first-generation students showcased the transformative impact of scholarships on individuals and their families.
UVU's commitment to education and community support shone brightly throughout the evening. President Tuminez summed up the university's mission, saying, "UVU is built to last.
