Licensed practical nurse (LPN) graduates from Mountainland Technical College (MTECH) can easily transfer their credits into the nursing program at Utah Valley University (UVU) thanks to a new agreement between the two schools.
Any MTECH nursing graduate in the LPN program in good academic standing can transfer into one of 24 newly added seats in UVU’s Associate of Science Nursing (ASN) program, where the incoming graduates will receive 22 UVU credits for their work at MTECH. The transfer students must pass the NCLEX-PN exam by the end of their first semester at UVU.
“Everyone wins when schools in the Utah System of Higher Education work together to help the students achieve their educational goals,” said Cheryl Hanewicz, dean of the College of Health and Public Service at UVU. “This cooperation will allow students to enter the workforce more quickly and help solve the need for more healthcare workers.”
The UVU ASN program prepares students to become registered nurses and assist patients in various healthcare settings within an interdisciplinary team. Graduates of the UVU ASN program are eligible to seamlessly transition to the UVU Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) completion program.
“The agreement will not make it more difficult for UVU students to get into the ASN program,” Hanewicz said. “UVU currently has 80 seats in the ASN program — the 24 new seats will bring the total to 104, which will meet student demand and community need. It will also bring nearly 50 more registered nurses to the community each year.”
UVU maintains an ongoing relationship with MTECH, creating academic pathways between the two institutions. Other existing articulation agreements between UVU and MTECH include the Associate in Applied Science degree in technology.
