President Astrid S. Tuminez highlighted Utah Valley University’s achievements in 2022, including new campus buildings, academic and athletic victories, historic donations, and increased completion rates. She also emphasized the opportunities ahead as she delivered the State of the University address on Jan. 26 in the Clarke Building on UVU’s Orem Campus.

"At UVU, each of us — whatever our positions are — we take our opportunities and responsibilities seriously, and we serve," President Tuminez said.

Her address also shone a spotlight on UVU’s EverGREEN comprehensive campaign, new educational programs, and the disruptions facing higher education at present, including declining enrollment rates, ChatGPT, and tech company certifications.

“We are living in very uncertain and rather difficult and unpredictable times in higher education,” President Tuminez said. "I see disruption as opportunity. I see it as nothing to fear."

President Tuminez said the changes facing the world right now provide a platform for UVU to continue regional and national success through its action commitments: Include, Engage, and Achieve.

"I personally believe this is the work of angels, to take someone and say, 'What do you want to become? We can help you, we will help you, and we will do it together,'" she said.

President Tuminez concluded her remarks by affirming UVU’s commitment to bettering the lives of students through education.

"UVU is a dream place of how life ought to be,” Tuminez said. “And we do it through education, which is as exciting as anything in the world."
