Students from Utah Valley University (UVU) brought home a victory on Nov. 14 in the PEG Case Competition. This year’s winning team consisted of UVU students Mitchell Jones, Camden Cooper, and Grant McColm.
The commercial real estate competition sponsored by PEG Companies gives students six weeks to prepare a development plan in a case study. Finalists then present their plans to PEG’s executive team. This year marked the first time UVU students competed in the case study competition.
“Having the opportunity to compete in something like this and come out on top is incredibly satisfying, not just in representing the school, but ourselves too,” Mitchell Jones said. “Because of this, I’m seriously considering pursuing [commercial real estate] as a career option”
Dr. Jacob Sybrowsky, assistant dean of the Woodbury School of Business (WSB), expressed his pride in the students’ work.
“They set a high bar for future competitions, and they represented the WSB and UVU with class,” Sybrowsky said. “Our students were extremely motivated and went the extra mile. I'm glad their efforts were rewarded not just with acknowledgment of the great work that they did in the competition, but from PEG and others in the industry who have interviewed them and are putting them on a path forward to begin working in real estate finance and development.”
PEG Companies Chief of Staff Natasha Alarid said she was impressed with the UVU team’s strategy going into the competition.
“One, they did their due diligence. Two, they had a comprehensive business plan that hit every area, so they understood zoning. Lastly, they went above and beyond,” she said. “They need to defend their title next year.”
