While many people associate safety with physical protection, UVU promotes on-campus resources that holistically support student safety. Led by the Coordinating Access to Resources and Education (CARE) Task Force, a new campaign titled “We CARE About You” addresses both standard physical safety on campus as well as other areas not commonly connected with student safety.
“We hope that students understand that safety covers more than just protection from physical violence,” said Ashley Larsen, deputy dean of students. “Campus safety at UVU includes providing our students with access to resources that help them feel secure so they can be successful in and out of the classroom. Whether it’s food or housing insecurities or concerns about mental health or student rights on campus, we want our students to know that we have resources to help them.”
The We CARE About You Campaign focuses on seven areas of student care:
“We closely monitor common issues UVU students face when it comes to completing their college degrees,” Larsen said. “Our goal as the CARE Task Force is to address these issues and increase the overall well-being and persistence rates of our student population. We want all of our students to succeed.”
The CARE Task Force consists of representatives from various campus departments. Whether they provide a service or tangible support, each department involved with the CARE Task Force puts student needs and safety first. For any student who has felt physically unsafe on campus, the CARE Task Force encourages them to reach out to the appropriate department via Report and Support.
“Every student has a unique experience when they come to campus, but we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming campus culture for everyone,” Larsen said.
Magnets featuring each of the “We CARE about You” statements with a link to campus support and resources are being distributed to nearby housing complexes by UVU students in the Residential Community Leadership Program (RCL). Students who don’t receive a magnet at their apartments are welcome to pick one up for free from SL 201.
About the CARE Task Force
Utah Valley University launched the Coordinating Access to Resources and Education (CARE) Task Force under the direction of the vice president of Student Affairs. The primary focus areas for the CARE Task Force are addressing food and housing insecurity, safety, and health. A separate task force focuses on addressing mental health.
UVU values every student and hopes to provide exceptional care to our students through the CARE Task Force, ensuring a healthy learning environment where students can succeed in their programs and graduate with the certificate or degree of their choice.
