Utah Valley University’s women’s basketball team celebrated its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament on March 21 in San Antonio. Center Josie Williams scored 18 points as the Wolverines lost to top overall seed Stanford, 87-44.
"It's all about making progress and getting better, and I think we did that this year,” UVU head coach Dan Nielson said. “This is a great experience, and it's motivation to try and get back here and perform better. I wouldn't trade this experience (for the team) for anything.”
UVU qualified for the NCAA Tournament due to Western Athletic Conference Tournament winners California Baptist’s postseason ineligibility. UVU’s second-place regular-season finish in the WAC, behind Cal Baptist, meant the Wolverines received the conference’s automatic bid.
