The staff at the UVU Woodbury Art Museum invites everyone to create their own museum at home during the current pandemic quarantine. With the Create Club, anyone can learn about various famous artists and craft your masterpieces by following along with easy online tutorials.
"After 9/11 and other crises, people flocked to museums for solace and comfort," said Lisa Anderson, director of the Woodbury Art Museum. "This crisis is particularly hard because people don't have access to those resources. But art can still provide that comfort, and it's still our mission to do so, even if we can't be there in person."
The project invites participants to make art at home and then share it with others through social media, tagging the UVU Woodbury Art Museum, and using the hashtag #wamcreateclub.
Each Friday, beginning April 17, three new projects will be shared on the Create Club's website. Each project is designed to be accessible for people of all ages, regardless of their level of artistic training. The first three projects are:
Each project includes a list of materials needed as well as step-by-step instructions with photographic examples. The art projects come from Lisa Jensen, an artist in her own right and a museum educator at the UVU Art Museum.
While many museums, including the UVU Art Museum, are making their collections and exhibitions available online during the quarantine, not as many are encouraging you to create your own art museum at home. "We want to provide more ways for people to engage with art rather than just viewing it on a screen," said Jensen.
