You’ve seen the headlines, the TikToks, and maybe even been duped by the deepfakes.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the hot topic right now, but to help you cut through
the confusion, Fulton Library has planned several AI workshops and created a new AI
guide for students. AI is a quickly advancing, moving target; explore our resources
to stay on top of the conversation.
Explore the Guide: AI Tools for Students
While every class has an AI statement in its syllabus, you probably still have questions, like, should AI be cited in assignments? (Yes!) Can AI be used for research? (Kind of.) And what even are AI text generators like ChatGPT? Our newest guide, AI Tools for Students, helps you navigate these questions and more.
This guide includes a well-rounded rundown of popular AI software, including how to create stellar AI prompts, how to cite AI in your assignments, and how to use AI to create research questions. You’ll also find an overview of AI art tools, as well as the downsides and limitations of AI, like hallucinations and plagiarism.
The bottom line: Before using AI tools to help with an assignment, check your syllabi or ask your professors if AI is allowed in each of your courses.
AI is evolving at a stunning rate, and we’ll all need to find new footing together. If you have questions about using AI for research, contact a librarian—we’re always here to help.

Research With Confidence: AI and Art
AI-generated art tends to be controversial. Some people love it, and others revile it, so conducting research on this murky topic can be difficult. When you’re conducting research on the crossroads of AI and art, our AI and Art research guide is a great jumping-off point. Use this guide to learn about database search strategies—including how to punctuate and phrase your searches—and find articles, books, websites, and databases to begin your background research.
This guide is a starting point, not a comprehensive overview of the subject. Since the ethics, benefits, and legality of AI-generated art is evolving as quickly as the AI software itself, we try to keep this guide current, but it may fall behind. If you need help researching AI art, reach out to a librarian for assistance.
