Spanish is the second-most common language in the United States after English. There are more Spanish speakers in the United
States than speakers of French, Hawaiian, and Native American languages combined.
Spanish is spoken most frequently at home by about 37 million people, making it the
fifth largest Spanish-speaking community in the world, after Mexico, Colombia, Spain
and Argentina.
Our Spanish Department offers a variety of Culture, Literature, Grammar and Professions-oriented upper-division courses. We also encourage our students to participate in our Study
Abroad Programs.
A major in Spanish, coupled with a major or minor in another discipline, can open a wide variety of doors for all students. During your education, it would be wise to travel to a foreign country or study abroad in international exchange programs to learn more about the culture. Volunteering language skills to community organizations, churches, or programs that work with people who speak your target language can also be very beneficial.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn a language that can open doors for your future job search... Start majoring in Spanish now!!!
