Makenzie Webb is majoring in Community Health at UVU. For her Engaged Learning internship, and through funding via the Li Ka-shing foundation, she was able to travel to Haiti and train 12 locals to be community health workers. In addition they worked together to create a curriculum for children to foster improved health practices.
While Makenzie's service benefited the community she also developed professionally. "I have always hoped that I would be able to go to grad school and I was thinking that I wanted to study global health, but I just wasn’t sure. After teaching community health workers in Haiti, I know more than ever that that it is what I want to do" said Makenzie.
Upon graduation Makenzie will attend graduate school with invaluable experience and will continue to develop her knowledge and skill set so that she can help others help themselves.
