About Pi Sigma Alpha

Founded in 1920, Pi Sigma Alpha (ΠΣΑ) is a national honor society for college and university students of political science in the United States. Its purpose is to recognize and promote high academic achievement in the field of political science. There are over 850 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Pi Sigma Alpha’s formation. The Utah Valley University chapter, Alpha Mu Nu, was incorporated in 2022.


Purpose

The purpose of Pi Sigma Alpha is to:

  • promote scholarship and academic excellence in government, political science, public administration and international relations
  • recognize outstanding student achievements
  • provide opportunities for self-development and association among members
  • prepare students for intellectual and professional leadership in the political arena through individual and collaborative exchanges with peers, faculty, and the community

Requirements

  • Have declared a major in Political Science
  • Completion of at least half the credits required for the baccalaureate degree
  • Completion of at least 10 semester credits of work in political science including at least one upper-division course
  • With an average grade of B in all courses in political science
  • Maintenance of general scholarship sufficient to place the student in the top (one-third) of his, her, or their class
