In August 2021, Erik Farias decided to pursue a career in Aviation at UVU. He knew that it was a
demanding degree and that it would be a financial commitment. He told his family that he viewed the
financial commitment as an investment in himself. By December of 2021, he had been accepted into
the Professional Pilots Program in the School of Aviation and he was on his way. Through a lot of hard
work and dedication, less than 16 months later, Erik had his Private Pilots license, his Commercial Pilots
License, and his Instruments Rating. Erik loved the UVU Aviation program and found joy in flying. Erik
was very smart, dedicated, goal oriented, passionate and loyal to a fault. When he put his mind to
something, he had unwavering commitment to see the task to completion. His family is devastated by
his early death. This scholarship is meant to be a blessing to another student’s life who needs financial
assistance to help accomplish their dream of becoming a Professional Commercial Pilot.
