Uplifting our Community

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences provides programs and services that can help address mental and behavioral health in our community. Graduate students in our Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs and undergraduates in our Bachelor of Social Work program provide over 100,000 hours per year of service as part of their training and education.

The UVU Community Mental Health Clinic provides free counseling to community members in need and specifically reaches out to members of underprivileged or marginalized communities. The therapy provided at the clinic allows individuals, families, and couples to work with a counselor on various problems, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief, identity, behavioral issues, etc.

A gift of support to the clinic will allow patients to receive quality treatment at no cost and provides students the opportunity to learn, grow, and serve within their community. We need your support to keep these services accessible to our community while fostering these students' educational experiences as they develop their professional skills as they provide services to those in need.

Help make free mental health counseling more accessible in our community. Your gift of $20 will provide a one-hour session with a UVU graduate student therapist.

Elizabeth Robison - Family Science

DEC 19, 2022

students at graduation

Elizabeth Robison, returned to school as a non-traditional student. Her love of learning and her desire to further her education was clear, but she had a difficult time deciding on a major. This was when she discovered the Family Science Program within our college. Within this program, Robison found an avenue and degree that encompassed her interests. She wanted to teach, help, guide, advocate, and organize.

Robinson attributes her success to the many instructors who helped drive her enthusiasm for learning.

“Professor Nelson was my first instructor within the family science program, and her enthusiasm for the subject affected me deeply. Professor Nelson's excitement for the subject, why it mattered, and the difference that just one person could make changed my mindset.”

Stories like Elizabeth’s are found everywhere throughout our college. Our students are learning first-hand the impact they can have in our communities. With your help, more students like Elizabeth can have the opportunity to deepen their engagement in learning opportunities and grow educationally, personally, and professionally.
