First-Generation Scholarship Opportunities

The First-Generation Student Success Center is eager to help first-gen students succeed in college. We offer numerous first-generation college student scholarships and tuition waivers each semester.

The scholarships offered by the First-Gen Student Success center vary in commitment levels, quantity, and requirements so that more of the students we aid may qualify for a First-Gen center award.

I Am First Tuition Waiver

The I Am First Tuition Waiver grants first-generation college students up to half in-state tuition, dependent upon other scholarships and grants. Students can reapply for up to 8 semesters. This waiver is not valid during the summer semester.

No application necessary; students only need to indicate that they are first gen on Scholarship Universe to be considered.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credit hours or more 
  • Must complete FAFSA

First-Gen Crew Tuition Waiver

The First-Gen Crew is a student leadership group dedicated to organizing events and promoting opportunities for UVU’s first-generation students. Members receive up to a full in-state tuition waiver, dependent upon other grants and scholarships.

Requirements

  • Must be a Utah resident 
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credit hours or more
  • Must have completed 30 credits at UVU 
  • Must complete FAFSA

First-Gen Executive Mentoring Scholarship

The First-Gen Executive Mentorship Scholarship promises exceptional mentorship from the First-Gen Advancement Board. Students will receive a half in-state tuition award.

Requirements

FAFSA is NOT required for the Executive Mentoring Scholarship.

  • Must be a first-generation UVU student 
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program 
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA 
  • Must have 60+ college credits 
  • Must have a declared major

First Steps Mentoring Scholarship

Recipients of the First Steps Mentorship Scholarship are connected with UVU faculty/staff mentors. Students also receive personalized support, guidance, and connection with peer mentors. A $500 scholarship is awarded after completing a semester.

FAFSA is not required for the First Steps Mentoring Scholarship.

  • Must be a first-generation UVU student
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Recipients are automatically considered for the Josephine Chatfield Scholarship when they answer the first-gen questions in ScholarshipUniverse.

Students must complete a FAFSA and demonstrate need.

Recipients are automatically considered for the First-Generation General Scholarship when they answer first-gen questions in ScholarshipUniverse.
