Non-Resident Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA


Freshman (F)

You are considered a freshman if you are a high school student preparing to graduate. 

Note: If you have AP credits or credits from concurrent enrollment classes, you are still eligible for scholarships designed for freshmen. 

Continuing Student (CS)

You are considered a continuing student if one of the following applies to you. 

  • You graduated from high school and completed 12 credit hours at UVU since graduating from high school.
  • You transferred from another institution and completed at least 12 credit hours at UVU since transferring.
  • You are enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for fall semester.

Transfer Student (T)

You are considered a transfer student if you have completed 12 or more credits at another institution after high school graduation.

Graduate Student (G)

You are considered a graduate student if you are admitted or enrolled in a graduate program at UVU.

Academic Merit (F)

Non-Resident Academic Merit Scholarship

Non-resident Academic Merit scholarships will be selected from current high school seniors who demonstrate that they meet the academic criteria. Unweighted GPA is used & GPA is not rounded. 

If you have an ACT Superscore that you would like to be considered, you must submit them to UVU or speak with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office by March 1st.

Non-Resident

Only 10 non-resident presidential and 10 non-resident exemplary scholarships are available.

P = Presidential

Renewal Information

4 years (8 semesters) or until a bachelor's degree is received, whichever comes first.

Pays full tuition.

Students will owe general student fees & other fees associated with their coursework.

E = Exemplary

Renewal Information

Yes

Scholarship Amount

Pays $6,200 per semester (Fall & Spring).

Students will owe the remaining tuition, general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and other fees associated with their coursework.

N = Non-Resident waiver

Renewal Information

This is a 2-semester scholarship and is not renewable

Can it be deferred?

No

Scholarship Amount

Pays $5,000 per semester (Fall and Spring).

Students will owe the remaining tuition, general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and other fees associated with their coursework.

Do the Following by March 1, 2025, to be Automatically Considered:

  • Complete the UVU Admission's Application.
  • Provide the Admissions Office with an official copy of your high school transcript your senior year.
  • Submit ACT or SAT Scores.

Even though UVU Academic Merit scholarships do not require a scholarship application, we encourage students to complete the scholarship application to see what other opportunities might be available.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Border Waiver (F)

Border Waiver

This scholarship is available to students who are within 100 highway miles from UVU's Orem or Wasatch campuses. Applicants must:

  • Have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher OR
  • Have an overall ACT score of 22 or higher

Eligibility

Incoming nonresident Freshmen undergraduates who have not previously been enrolled in any other college or university. The high schools listed below qualify:

  • Evanston High School, Evanston Wyoming
  • Kemmerer High School, Kemmerer Wyoming
  • Mountain View High School, Mountain View Wyoming
  • Lyman High School, Lyman Wyoming
  • Must enroll and earn 12 credit hours each semester

Scholarship application

Award

  • Waives the non-resident portion of tuition so that students pay only the resident tuition rates.
  • The scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters, as long as GPA and credit hour requirements are met each semester.

Exceptional Performance (F, CS, T)

Exceptional Performance Scholarship

Eligibility

Each Exceptional Performance scholarship will have different eligibility requirements. Auditions, interviews, or tryouts may be required. Contact the department for details.

Honors Program (F, CS, T)

 

Honors Program

The honors program tuition and housing scholarships are based on potential for innovation, creativity, and intellectual inquiry. 

Eligibility

  • Write two short admissions essays (prompts provided)
  • No minimum GPA or test score required to apply
  • We admit between 150 and 200 students annually based on:
    • Potential for innovation, creativity, and intellectual inquiry
    • High school and / or college
    • GPA ACT or SAT scores
    • Prior academic work
    • A writing sample via the essays
    • Demonstrated commitment to high achievement

Award

Honors Program Tuition Award amounts vary from $500 to $1500 for up to eight semesters.

Honors Program Housing Award pays a portion of the rent (roughly 50%) and students pay the remainder plus utilities for up to two years.

Transfer Non-Resident Waiver

2024-2025 Deadline: June 1, 2024

Eligibility

  • Must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA
    • The unweighted GPA is used.
    • The GPA is not rounded.
  • Completion of 24 transfer credits
    • The total of credit hours required must be transfer credit hours, not to be combined with credit hours earned at Utah Valley University.
  • Students transferring in 12-23 credits will be considered if the following applies:
    • The student's High School and Transfer GPA is 3.5 or greater.
    • The ACT score is 24 or greater, or their SAT score is 1180 or greater.
  • AP credits are not considered
  • Must enroll and earn 12 credit hours each semester
  • Must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • F-1 Visa International Students are not eligible Learn More
  • Must not be in the Global Aviation, ELL, or any Off Budget degree programs.
  • Cannot have a previous bachelor's degree.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Award

  • The Transfer Nonresident Waiver is only a two semester award and cannot be renewed.
  • This award cannot be placed on hold.
  • The Nonresident Waiver pays $5000 per semester ($5000 in Fall and $5000 in Spring).
  • Only offered Fall and Spring and must be used for two consecutive semesters, with the exclusion of Summer.
  • The time spent in Utah, while receiving a Nonresident Waiver, counts towards establishing residency for tuition purposes.

Non-Resident Waiver (G)

Graduate Non-Resident Waiver

This award waives the non-resident portion of tuition so that students pay only the resident tuition rates.

2024-2025 Fall Application Opens January 1, 2024, and Closes July 1, 2024

2025 Spring Deadline December 1, 2024

Eligibility

  • Must enroll and earn the minimum number of credit hours each semester. Qualifying credit hours is determined by the program.
  • Must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • F-1 Visa International Students are not eligible Learn More
  • Eligibility determined by the program

How to Apply

Complete the Admissions process about two weeks prior to the deadline.
General scholarship application must be completed by the deadline.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Award

  • The Non-resident Waiver may be used for two semesters in a full-time program. If enrolled in a part-time program, may be used up to four semesters.
  • The award cannot be renewed or be placed on hold.
  • The Non-resident Waiver pays the non-resident portion of tuition. Amount is determined by the program.
  • Student pays course fees and student fees.
  • Only offered Fall and Spring and must be used for two consecutive semesters, with the exclusion of Summer.
  • The time spent in Utah, while receiving a Non-resident Waiver, counts towards establishing residency for tuition purposes

Private Scholarships (F, CS, T, G)

 

Private Scholarships

Large corporations, small businesses, families, and individuals donate through the Make A Gift program to allow students the chance to qualify for privately funded scholarship awards.

Eligibility

  • Each Private scholarship will have different eligibility requirements. These requirements may be viewed in ScholarshipUniverse.
  • Need-Based scholarships require the completion of a FAFSA.
  • Academic scholarships are scored based on your GPA and credit hours completed at UVU.
  • 3.0 GPA Minimum is Required
  • Cannot have a previous Bachelor's degree

  • For need-based, complete the FAFSA.

WRGP (G)

 

Western Regional Graduate Program

The Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) is for students in UVU approved WRGP graduate programs who are residents of specific western states. For additional information about graduate studies or the WRGP, please visit https://www.uvu.edu/graduatestudies/

Time spent in Utah, while receiving WRGP, does not count towards establishing residency for tuition Purposes. 

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in one of the following UVU approved WRGP programs:
    • Master of Accountancy
    • Master of Arts in Constitutional Government, Civics, and Law
    • Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy
    • Master of Business Administration
    • Master of Computer Science
    • Master of Education
    • Master of Financial Planning and Analytics
    • Master of Public Service
    • Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
    • Master of Science in Cybersecurity
    • Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management
    • Master of Science in Mathematics Education
    • Master of Science in Nursing
    • Master of Social Work
  • Must be a legal resident of one of the following states or territories: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, and American Samoa. 
  • Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must enroll and earn the minimum number of credit hours each semester. Qualifying credit hours is determined by the program.
  • Must upload one of the following when applying:
    • A copy of a valid driver's license from your state of residency
    • A copy of a valid government issued ID from your state of residency

Students pays the following:

  • 100% of the graduate program's resident tuition
  • Student Fees
  • Course Fees

WUE (F, CS, T)

 

Western Undergraduate Exchange

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is for students who are residents of specific western states. Time spent in Utah, while receiving a WUE, does not count towards establishing residency for tuition purposes.

Eligibility

  • Must be a legal resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, and American Samoa. 
  • Must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA to apply
  • Must enroll and earn 12 credit hours each semester
  • Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible WUE degree program. Non-eligible degree programs:
    • Global Aviation, Nursing, High School Concurrent Enrollment, Integrated Studies, and Personal Interest
  • Must upload one of the following when applying:
    • A copy of a valid driver's license from your state of residency
    • A copy of a valid government issued ID from your state of residency
