Federal Graduate PLUS Loan A Graduate PLUS Loan is a non-need-based loan that is available to graduate students
to aid in paying for educational expenses.

Eligibility
- Complete the FAFSA.
- Complete the Graduate PLUS Loan Application.
- Enroll in at least 4.5 eligible credit hours each semester.
- E-sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- Must complete Student Loan Entrance Counseling for Graduate or Professional Students
at STUDENTAID.GOV.
- Must have acceptable credit. The US Department of Education will run a credit check.
Award Amount
The maximum loan amount you can borrow is the cost of attendance (determined by the
school) minus any other financial aid received.
Loan Fees
There is a loan fee on all PLUS loans. The loan fee is a percentage of the loan amount
and is proportionately deducted from each loan disbursement.

Disbursement
Your Graduate PLUS loan will first pay your outstanding tuition and fees.
After this balance is paid, any excess financial aid will be refunded to you either
by check, or through direct deposit (which you may set up in your myUVU student account).

Loan information is sent to the U.S. Department of Education. This information is
then included in the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and is accessible to
you and authorized agencies, lenders, servicers, and institutions.

Federal Parent PLUS Loan A Parent PLUS Loan is a non-need-based loan that is available to the parents of undergraduate
students to aid in paying for educational expenses.

Eligibility
- Complete the FAFSA.
- The parent must be the student’s biological or adoptive mother or father. A stepparent
is also eligible to borrow a PLUS loan if their income and assets would be taken into
account on the student’s FAFSA application. A legal guardian is not considered a parent
for this purpose.
- The parent must complete the Parent PLUS Loan Request and upload the completed form to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 eligible credit hours.
- The parent must e-sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- The parent must have acceptable credit. The US Department of Education will run a

Private Education Loans A Private Education Loan is a loan a student may apply for directly with an education
loan lender to pay for educational expenses. UVU uses a historical private education
loan lender list.

Direct Subsidized Loans A Direct Subsidized Loan is a need-based loan that is available to undergraduate students
who have demonstrated financial need.

Direct Unsubsidized Loans Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to undergraduate and graduate students; there
is no requirement to demonstrate financial need. Interest accrues throughout the life
of the loan, and the student is responsible for the interest during all periods.
