Utah Valley University (UVU) community members gathered to break ground for the UCCU Stadium on April 9, 2024. This event celebrated UVU’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art facilities for UVU student-athletes.
Vice President of Institutional Advancement and UVU Foundation CEO Kyle A. Reyes, Associate Vice President and Athletic Director Jared Sumsion, student-athlete Ruby Hladek, Utah Community Credit Union President and CEO Bret VanAusdal, and UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez delivered remarks addressing the importance of investing in the future of athletics at UVU. Afterward, attendees ceremoniously moved the first shovels of dirt, beginning the stadium’s construction.
“The construction of the UCCU Stadium is not just about building a new facility,” said Sumsion. “It’s about acknowledging the accomplishments of our student-athletes and providing them the resources they need to excel on the pitch, in the classroom, in the community, and life.”
“We are excited for what the stadium is going to do, not only for the university but for this community as a whole,” said VanAusdal. “We anticipate the future events the stadium will host, even beyond soccer matches but the wholesome activities it will provide the Valley.”
The 22,000-square-foot stadium will include updated locker rooms, team lounges, 400 additional chairback seats, covered plaza seating, a Major League Soccer-style press box with broadcast capabilities, and 10 luxury suites.
UVU men’s and women’s soccer teams will call this new UCCU Stadium home. The updated facilities will provide spaces for UVU student-athletes to bond as teams and receive support from fans through an increased capacity of total spectators.
