The Utah Valley University (UVU) Office for Global Engagement provides UVU students with international learning that is crucial for success in an increasingly connected world. Baldomero Lago, the chief international officer at UVU, oversees the office, and he is committed to sharing the world’s knowledge with UVU students.

"We play a pivotal role in nurturing UVU’s global connections and facilitating international collaboration," emphasized Lago. "Our office serves as a central hub for advancing UVU's global initiatives and promoting cross-cultural understanding."

The UVU Office for Global Engagement consistently hosts events and activities for UVU students to interact with global leaders and learn about the world’s most pressing issues and current challenges. Most of all, they allow UVU students to get involved in bettering their local and global communities. A historic milestone for the Office for Global Engagement and UVU was hosting the United Nations 68th Annual Civil Society Conference.

However, these efforts come at great costs. Funds are limited and the sustainability of future events and initiatives is not certain. "While our office has achieved significant milestones, securing long-term resources remains a priority," Lago remarked. "Nevertheless, we are committed to leveraging our existing partnerships and exploring new opportunities to expand our global footprint."

The next step for Lago and his office is pursuing a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) chair designation, which would elevate UVU’s status as a global leader in education and research. Through continued collaboration and innovation, the UVU Office for Global Engagement is confident in its ability to shape the next generation of global leaders and foster positive change on a global scale.
