Application Process: Study Abroad

  1. Application: Apply for a program of your choice and pay the $75 non-refundable application fee before the application deadline.
  2. Program acceptance:  Within a few weeks of the application deadline, you will receive an official notification of acceptance from the Office of Education Abroad which outlines the next steps regarding payments, course registration, safety and culture orientation, additional forms, etc.  Your faculty program director might be in touch with you earlier than the application deadline, but they will definitely be in contact with you after your official acceptance to discuss program and travel arrangements.

  3.  Deposit payment: Once  you have been accepted into a Study Abroad program, a non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within two weeks of acceptance. This deposit is applied toward the program fee.  By paying the $500 deposit, you are committing to participate in the Study Abroad program and pay the balance of the full program fee. If you withdraw from the Study Abroad program after paying the deposit, your student account may be charged up to the full program fee to cover any non-recoverable costs incurred by the university on your behalf because of your commitment to participate.

  4. Program fee payment:The balance of your program fee (minus the $500.00 deposit) will be posted to your summer 2025 student account on March 17, and will be due in full on March 23, 2025. You may incur late payment fees if you do not pay by 11:59pm on March 23, 2025 unless you set up a summer semester payment plan with UVU's Collections Office to extend your payments (my.uvu.edu>Students>Paying for my Education>Enroll & View Payment Plans). Additional charges apply for setting up a payment plan. Payments can be made via your myUVU account. Please review the UVU Bursar's Office payment options and Student Financial Responsibility Agreement pages to understand your payment options and responsibilities. All payments, except for verified costs covered by summer financial aid disbursement (see below), must be paid in full at least three weeks prior to program departure even if your payment deadlines indicated by any payment plans with the UVU Collections Office state differently.

  5. Late applications: Post-deadline applicants who are accepted into a program must submit the non-refundable $500 deposit within two weeks of acceptance.

  6. Student account holds: All UVU debts (program fees, tuition, traffic tickets, library fees, holds, etc.) must be cleared prior to departure.

  7. Course registration: Later in the spring semester, you will be advised by email or Canvas on how to register for your Study Abroad program course. The tuition for these courses will be charged to your student account as summer tuition at the rate of $200 per credit hour. Please note that tuition for your Study Abroad courses is charged separately from your Study Abroad program fee and is due at the end of April according to the Summer 2025 Student Timetable.

  8. Financial aid: If you have scholarships or financial aid that will be paying for some of your tuition and program fee costs, you will need to submit a Study Abroad Financial Aid Budget Sheet by March 23, 2025 and set up a payment plan with UVU's Collections Office. You must meet an advisor from the Office of Education Abroad (LA 209) to fill out a Financial Aid Budget Sheet before meeting with an advisor from the Financial Aid office. Please reach out to [email protected] to set up an appointment to discuss your financial aid at your earliest convenience.
  9. Study Abroad Orientation Course: In addition to the courses that you register for as part of the summer program, you are required to register for a second block, spring semester online Study Abroad Orientation course that will start on March 1. This is a non-credit online Canvas course with no tuition or any extra fees attached to it. The orientation will cover basic health, safety, and cultural materials pertinent to international travel. The Canvas course will require you to turn in a few more materials (e.g., copy of passport, risk and release form, etc.). Your faculty leader will likely schedule other pre-departure meetings with you that are more specific to your program.

  10.  Important international health insurance information: Students participating in a UVU-sponsored Study Abroad program will enroll in a group insurance plan administered by a UVU-contracted insurance provider. The cost of international travel medical insurance is factored into program fees.  As per campus policy, students must be covered by UVU's insurance provider even if they have their own international insurance.

  11. Withdrawals and refunds: Please refer to the Cancellations and Refunds Policy
