Program Details

With field experiences in South Asia and North America, this program systematically explores the geography, history, culture, religion, politics, and ways that humans live in the varying natural environments of the earth. India has much to teach us about global geography with its location at the center of the ancient silk road and colonial empires and its emergence as a major democracy and economic force in the modern world. We'll spend some time at an ecovillage in rural India learning ways that humans can live in harmony with nature and spirituality. Academics and industry experts will meet with us in Mumbai before we head to the ancient Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain cave temples of Ellora and Ajanta (UNESCO World Heritage sites). We'll visit Bibi-qa-Maqbara, a 17th century Mughal mausoleum in Aurangabad before taking a flight to Jaipur, “the city of kings.” We will explore other regions of the world via an online course through the rest of the summer semester. We'll reflect on the lessons learned from the rest of the world during an optional excursion to the UVU Capital Reef field station.

Students will visit:

  • Mumbai
  • Govardhan Ecovillage
  • Aurangabad
  • Ajanta and Ellora cave temples
  • Jaipur
  • UVU Capital Reef Field Station (optional)
