Brazil: Portuguese Language 2025
February 1, 2025; $75
Application fee is non-refundable.
June 1-28, 2025
Brazil is South America’s most influential country, with a diverse population, rich history, and rising economy. It is the world’s fifth-largest country by area and seventh most populous. Brazil hosts nearly 20% of the world’s species, making it the most biodiverse country in the world. During this Summer Semester program, we will spend four weeks in an immersive environment in Recife. Situated in the Northeast of the country, Recife stands at the crossroads of history—blending its colonial past with modern innovations in information technology and medical treatment facilities.
Together we will research and analyze how the past informs the present as we study how the themes of race, class, and religion in Brazilian society are presented through language, literature, art, architecture, food, dance, music, and film. Students will live with host families and study Portuguese in the morning at ABA Global. The rest of the week we will explore the city and surrounding areas and visit museums and cultural centers while discovering and experiencing Brazil’s vibrant culture. And let’s not forget the world class tropical beaches!
Students are required to enroll in both of the following courses for this study abroad program:
