Dr. Douglas Wendt is excited to be part of the UVU community. Dr. Wendt, who prefers to go by Doug, enjoys learning alongside his amazing colleagues, students, and friends. Having previously worked in global social impact, Doug returned to graduate school to complete his MSW and then PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy. In his teaching, research, and clinical work, he blends individual self-integration with relational well-being in the context of mezzo and macro forces. His main research area is healthy masculinity both in the United States and globally. In integrating spiritual, humanistic, and pro-feminist lenses, he seeks to help men find their way toward relational wholeness, individual well-being, and gender equality.
In the MSW program, he teaches both micro (clinical) classes and also macro (globally-focused) courses. He is so grateful to be part of a faculty in which he is able to pursue these twin interests, as he believes real change requires both top down strategy and grassroots movements. He loves being at an institution that prioritizes student learning.
Doug just published articles on healthy masculinity and relational therapy (though he is dragging his feet publishing his dissertation). He is currently thrilled to be involved with Utah-based nonprofits focused on culturally-centered poverty alleviation initiatives around the world. With former students, he is spearheading programs focused on delivering high quality pro-bono therapy resources to refugees.
Doug habla español and fala portugues (though he wishes he did both better) and is always looking for likeminded community members to connect with.
