Dr. Israd Jaafar obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics (2011) at Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA. He has instructed Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering courses in both Malaysia and the United States, (Plastics Engineering Technology, Penn State Erie; Mechanical Engineering, Utah Valley University) .
He joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at UVU in August 2020. Past research includes nano/micromolding of polymeric structures to investigate influences on in vitro human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) culture, synthesis and characterization of a novel biocompatible and biodegradable biopolymer (poly-glycerol sebacate), and vibration assisted injection molding (VAIM) for tuning the mechanical and physical properties of semi-crystalline polymers. His current applied research interests include advanced manufacturing of polymers and its applications.
Dr. Jaafar is enthusiastic about teaching and is continuously seeking ways to adopt the latest pedagogical approaches and development in technologies in teaching, for enhanced student learning and engagement.
