Biography
Emily completed her Ph.D. at the University of Utah in the areas of analytical chemistry and laser spectroscopy. She then completed a 3-year postdoctoral research appointment at the University of Central Florida, developing spectroscopic techniques for the measurement of mercury in water, chemometric identification of forensic fibers, and using computational chemistry to interpret experimental luminescence spectra. More recently, her teaching experience has prompted research into the benefits of informal learning and service-learning opportunities in chemistry classes and laboratories. She aims to expand the awareness, knowledge, and problem-solving skills of diverse student populations and improve the community perception and accessibility of science.
