Dr. Vance Gough is an award-winning professor and is currently the academic program lead for Entrepreneurship at UVU. He previously taught for the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business where he was the Director of the Entrepreneurship and Management Project Office. He then served as a tenured Professor of Entrepreneurship at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business, where he was a Program Chair for Entrepreneurship, Marketing and International Business.
He holds an EdD in Workplace and Adult Learning, with his dissertation focusing on optimal teaching methods for post-secondary Entrepreneurship students. Vance also has an MBA with majors in Finance, Marketing and Enterprise Development.
Vance has been the founder/co-founder of five companies, including the Prairie Mill Bread Company, an artisan bakery, which was named one of the Top 10 Bakeries in Canada by Homemaker Magazine.
Gough has developed and taught courses in creativity, sustainable problem solving, design thinking, pitching ideas to potential investors, new venture consulting, business models, social entrepreneurship, enterprise formation and feasibility analysis. He was part of a team that created a specialized minor in entrepreneurship for engineering students at the University of Calgary and he helped design award winning entrepreneurship programs at Mount Royal University.
He previously served as both the VP Programs and then as VP Communications for the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE), Canada's premier national academic organization for entrepreneurship.
Prior to coming to UVU, Vance also served for 23 years as a Reserve Canadian Armed Forces Officer. He was a Department Head multiple times and held other senior appointments in the Royal Canadian Navy. He retired from the RCN in 2014.
Gough's current research interests include optimal teaching methods to create higher entrepreneurial intention, the confluence of entrepreneurial attitude & intent, and peer-influences on post-secondary students decisions to start new ventures.
Dr. Gough has presented/taught courses and seminars throughout North America, and also in Austria, China, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, and the Republic of Congo. He has also been a guest speaker at many industry conferences, service clubs, Chambers of Commerce, and strategic military symposiums.

The Canadian Forces Decoration (with Clasp) (post-nominal letters "CD") is a Canadian award bestowed upon members of the Canadian Forces who have completed 22 years of honourable military service.
Created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. This medal served to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

Established in 1888 by Queen Victoria, the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem is a working order of charitably minded men and women whose philanthropy is expressed principally through its two foundations, the St. John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem and St. John Ambulance.
