Biography

Hailed for his "virtuosity" and "crystal-clear articulation", pianist Armen Sahakyan is an internationally distinguished pianist, winning international acclaim as an orchestral soloist, recitalist, accompanist, and chamber musician. Possessing the rare combination of insight, inspiration, and an alluring technique, he continues to ?fascinate audiences? around the world. (Badishe Neuste Nachrichten).
Dr. Sahakyan, a native of Armenia, began his studies at the age of eight. In 1993, at the invitation of UNESCO, Dr. Sahakyan, a young artist at the age of 10, gave a series of solo recitals in France, specifically in Paris, Grenoble, and Marseille.
Dr. Sahakyan holds a DMA from Yerevan State Conservatory. He also holds a bachelor degree from Karlsruhe State Conservatory in Germany and an Artist Diploma from Hamline International Piano Institute in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In 1995, Dr. Sahakyan was the winner of the ?Bach Concerto Competition? and the ?Amadeus Piano Competition?. Since then, Dr. Sahakyan has performed with many orchestras throughout Armenia, Russia and Germany. In 2000, he won the top prize at the Prokofiev Young Pianists International Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia, along with a special prize for his modern repertoire.
Frequently participating in international music festivals, Dr. Sahakyan received the Pavel Tretyakov medal at the Moscow International Music Festival for Pianists. Due to his love for chamber music, he has collaborated with musicians such as Boris Belkin, Joseph Rissin, Mikhail Kopelman, Gustav Rivinius and Dora Schwarzberg.
In 2013, Dr. Sahakyan moved to Utah, and has been a faculty member of UVU since 2014.
