Ka Lun (Allan) Wong was born and raised in Hong Kong, where he developed a love for mathematics from an early age. He attended Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYUH), earning a Bachelor's degree with a double major in Mathematics and Piano Pedagogy.
Allan pursued his master's degree at Brigham Young University, specializing in number theory. He continued his academic journey at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, obtaining his PhD in mathematics with a focus on modular forms.
After completing his PhD, Allan returned to BYUH as an assistant professor of mathematics, where he taught for seven years. During his tenure, Allan published five papers, two of which were collaborative efforts with his students. He is currently working on projects related to the sum of digital sum functions and has supervised the Putnam Math Competition in recent years, with one of his students being mentioned in the top 500.
In 2024, Allan gladly joined the Department of Mathematical and Quantitative Reasoning at Utah Valley University (UVU) as an associate professor.
Outside the classroom, Allan enjoys playing the piano during his free time. On Friday nights, you'll often find him at home watching movies with his four kids, who range in age from 5 to 15 years old. His go-to comfort food is chocolate chip ice cream, and one item on his bucket list is to try spearfishing.
