Biography

Robert W. Brown has been an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice program at Utah Valley University since January, 2015. Prior to teaching at UVU, Mr. Brown practiced law full time for thirty-three years in Sheridan, Wyoming, specializing in domestic relations, estate planning, workers compensation law, and appellate practice. He represented clients in over thirty cases appealed to the Wyoming Supreme Court.
Mr. Brown received a BA in Political Science in 1978 from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1981. He also served a judicial clerkship in the third judicial district court in Wyoming in the summer of 1979.
Mr. Brown was a Circuit Court Magistrate in Sheridan County, Wyoming for over fifteen years. In that capacity he conducted over two hundred hearings, including initial appearances, change of plea hearings, sentencing hearings, and small claims court trials. In addition, he reviewed over a hundred applications for search and arrest warrants. He also served as the court appointed mediator in approximately fifty cases.
Mr. Brown is married and the father of four adult children and thirteen grandchildren. Outside of the law and law enforcement, Mr. Brown is also interested in sports, (both playing and watching), travel, and studying American history.
