Faculty Member
Michelle Rankin has spent over 15 years working in the accounting profession. She earned her Bachelor and Master of Tax Accountancy degrees from Brigham Young University in December 2005 and is licensed as a CPA under the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
Michelle has spent numerous years working in public accounting. The majority of that time was spent working for Ernst & Young, LLP in Austin, Texas, but she also worked with Tanner, LLC in Salt Lake City, remotely for Maxwell, Locke, and Ritter's Austin office and remotely for Clifton Larson Allen's Eastern Washington office. Michelle also spent 6 years working full-time in industry as a senior tax manager for Woodbury Corporation, a real estate development company, based in Salt Lake City.
In addition to her University responsibilities, Michelle is involved in the professional community. She currently works part-time for Woodbury Corporation, assisting with special projects. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Spectrum Academy, a charter school which has campuses in Pleasant Grove and North Salt Lake, UT.
Michelle is passionate about taxes and is highly technical, spending the majority of her career working with multi-million dollar businesses in both the private and public sector. For the past nine years, Michelle's focus has been real estate and partnership taxation. Michelle teaches tax classes at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She also serves as the assistant department chair of the Accounting Department and as a member of the MAcc Committee.
