Biography

Dr. Marcy Hehnly has taught at Utah Valley University since Fall 2014 having moved to Utah from Atlanta, Georgia. Since being employed at UVU, she has been teaching Introduction to Criminal Justice, Corrections, Ethics, Policing, Juvenile Justice, Criminology, a Domestic Multicultural Experience to Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and many more. She teaches in the graduate and undergraduate program.

Marcy's background includes her active duty military service in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer while achieving the rank of sergeant in her five years. Upon exiting the military, Marcy took her training and became a member of the Cobb County Police Department located in Marietta, Georgia. Here she served as a patrolman, a field training officer, a narcotics agent, and a recruiter for the police department. After serving CCPD for 10 years, Marcy moved into teaching higher education.

Marcy has a passion for community engagement and encourages her students to do the same through service projects. Through this, she mentors first generation students as well as students working on community-based projects.

As a scholar-practitioner, her research has focused on law enforcement as well as crimes against children. Her dissertation focused on police investigators' attitudes towards victims of crime. Because of her current community-based projects which focus on mental wellness of first responders, she has been concentrating on these topics for her current research.

In her free time, Marcy enjoys traveling, the outdoors, her dogs and spending time with her family!
